Paratriathlon & Adaptive Divisions

The Queen City Triathlon includes two divisions for adaptive athletes: paratriathlon and adaptive multisport. We recognize paratriathlon is a form of adaptive multisport and that many adaptive athletes consider themselves paratriathletes and vice versa. These categories are based on the classification system that governs competition in each.

Paratriathlon

The Queen City Triathlon has adopted the USA Triathlon and International Paralympic Committee’s universal classification code to ensure the accurate, reliable, and credible implementation of sport-specific classification systems. This classification process determines who is eligible to compete in a Paralympic sport and groups eligible athletes into sport classes according to their activity limitations. For more information about Paralympic classification and the IPC Athlete Classification Code, please visit the IPC Classification Webpage

Adaptive Divisions

  • ADT1 Ambulatory: For athletes with limb deficiencies, with or without prostheses
  • ADT1 Wheelchair: For athletes with physical impairments that require a handcycle and racing wheelchair
  • ADT1 Visually Impaired: For athletes with low to no vision who race with co-athletes
  • Adaptive multisport: A more general division with more relaxed rules for equipment, assistance, and competition divisions
